In time, gravity, sun exposure, and the stresses of daily life take their toll on our faces: deep creases appear beside the mouth, the jaw line slackens, and folds and fat deposits appear on the neck. Facelifts counteract these problems by removing fat and tightening skin and muscles, giving your face a fresher, youthful look. Incisions are made in inconspicuous places such as behind the hairline and in natural folds of the face and ears, and scars become more subtle in time.
This procedure can be combined with a browlift, eyelid surgery or nose reshaping for more dramatic results, or it can be restricted to the neck (neck lift) if the patient's problems center there.
This procedure is designed to correct hollowing beneath the lower eyelids and deep nasolabial folds which run from the base of the nose to the outer corners of the mouth. It creates a more youthful appearance by smoothing the transition between the lower eyelids and upper cheek region. If improvement in the neck or jowl region is desired, a Midface Lift can be combined with a more standard facelift.
The procedure is done under general anesthesia. The incision is made underneath the lower lid lash margin and usually extended out to the lateral eye region. A fair amount of bruising and swelling are normal for 1-2 weeks after surgery. Ice and ocular lubricants can be helpful early on. There can be a period lasting several weeks of an overcorrected or "Asian" appearance to the eyes which relaxes over the first 4-6 weeks.
One of the most common plastic surgery procedures, rhinoplasty is performed to reshape, reduce or augment a person's nose, remove a hump, narrow nostril width, change the angle between the nose and the mouth, or to correct injury, birth defects, or other problems that affect breathing. Rhinoplasty is usually an outpatient procedure performed under either local or general anesthesia.
Eyelid surgery can rejuvenate 'tired-appearing', saggy or puffy eyes. Occasionally, eyelid surgery may be covered by insurance if one's field-of-vision is obstructed by the excess skin of the upper eyelid- this must be confirmed by an Opthalmologist. Upper eyelid surgery can sometimes be performed in an office-setting under local anesthesia if the skin-excess is minimal. Lower eyelid surgery can oftentimes be performed via the 'trans-conjunctival' (from the inside of the lower eyelid) approach and leaves no external scar. Lower eyelid surgery can also be performed in conjunction with skin-resurfacing procedures to remove excessive skin and wrinkles.
Whether or not we notice it consciously, full cheeks are often a part of how we judge a person's face. Cheek implants can have a major impact on the appearance and self-confidence of patients whose cheeks have thinned or sunken due to age, illness or other causes. Likewise, the chin helps provide harmony to the facial features. Often, patients come to the office desiring a smaller nose when, in fact, a chin augmentation provides a balance to the facial features. Implant sizes and shapes to augment the cheek and chin are tailored to each patient's desired appearance.
Ear surgery for children or adults can set prominent ears back closer to the head and reduce the size of large ears. Surgery may also be helpful for "lop ear," "cupped ear" and "shell ear," large or stretched earlobes, and lobes with creases and wrinkles or stretched-out piercings. The operation can be performed on children as young as five years of age when the ears are fully grown to minimize teasing in school. The procedure may be performed in a hospital, office-based facility or an outpatient surgery center under general or local anesthesia.
Forehead/Brow lifts can revitalize drooping or lined foreheads, helping you to look less angry, sad or tired. Using either traditional or minimally invasive (endoscopic) methods, the muscles above the eyes are altered to smooth lines and raise the eyebrows for a more youthful appearance. The procedure is often combined with other operations such as blepharoplasty and facelifts to improve the look of the eyes and other areas of the face.
With massive weight-loss, weight-gain and/or aging, the tissue and skin in the neck region tends to lose elasticity. The underlying platysma muscles may form unsightly 'bands' that become a cardinal sign of aging. The fat beneath the chin area may become prominent and unsightly (creating a chin 'waddle') and the overlying skin may become loose and redundant giving an undesirable 'turkey-neck' appearance.
Neck rejuvenation may be performed utilizing a number of procedures with the goal of restoring the volume and contour of a more youthful neck. Many times, it is the neck area that may give away someone's age more than the facial area. Procedures include neck liposuction, full neck lift performed in conjunction with a full facelift, platysmaplasty (sewing up the platysma muscle vertical banding or cords), or isolated neck lift which is popular in men who do not desire a full facelift.
